Recreating memories
I create artwork that centers on joy and grief—two emotions that live in one house together. I grieve what is lost and what could have been, while simultaneously finding joy in what remains.
My work often revisits stories passed down through my family, told and retold throughout my childhood. I embrace the embellishments that shaped those memories, honoring them as part of our shared past, even as I recognize that time alters them and they can never be fully recreated.
Having lived in constant fear of the inevitable—loss, one of the most natural experiences we all share—I now reflect on what remains afterward and what we choose to hold on to. My multi-layered paintings incorporate a variety of textures that represent the dualities within the subject matter. They speak to the memories that are mine through the love shared with me in storytelling, and the fear of losing it all as those memories begin to fade.
